February 16, 6:00 pm
February 16, 8:00 pm
First established at Del Mar College in 1966, the annual National Drawing and Small Sculpture Show attracts works from some of the most creative contemporary American artists from across the United States. Each year, a guest juror of national stature judges the annual show with internationally-known sculptor Dora Natella serving as the 2018 juror. Natella’s sculptures have won many awards and are part of several private and public collections in Merida, Venezuela; Rome, Italy; and across the United States. Out of the artworks submitted for 2018, Natella will select the final pieces making up this year’s National Drawing and Small Show, which is hosted by the College’s Department of Art and Drama. For more than 50 years, purchase awards by the DMC Art Program and the William F. White, Jr. Library have built an impressive permanent collection at Del Mar College. The 2018 exhibit begins on Friday, Feb. 16, with a free opening reception—including hors d’ oeuvres, a cash bar and music. The event runs from 6 to 8 p.m. in the distinctive Joseph A. Cain Memorial Art Gallery. The national show closes May 4. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and 9 a.m. to noon on Fridays. The exhibit is free.
